Account told by Wilda Jean, daughter of Edith: "Uncle Sumpter wanted to buy land and get married so he went to Milton, FL. and applied for a job on the railroad. He would walk into Bonifay (or catch a ride) on Sunday's and ride the train to Milton. He stayed all week and came back home on Friday nights. As you know uncle Sumpter was murdered March 17, just 9 months after uncle Jessie died. Grandma was already 3 months pregnant with my Mother (Edith). How much can a mother withstand?" |
